Natural Hair Journey- how to grow out damaged hair.

We've all been there. You decide after years of dying your hair that you want to grow out your natural hair! Yes! Embrace your natural locks, ladies.

There is nothing more powerful than a woman who feels confident in her own body.

I've been a blonde for over a decade and lately have been wondering what my y hair would actually look like if I just let it be. Maybe it was getting older and realizing I don't have much time until I start seeing gray? Over the recent years, I had my own trials and errors with changing up my hair so, in this post, I want to share with you what has worked for me.

Wash your hair less often!

Frequent hair washing strips your hair of its natural oils and causes overdrying of the scalp. This can become an issue as your hair will start to produce more oils to compensate for the overwashing. Natural oils are beneficial for the health of our hair as it is a natural conditioner! Depending on your hair type, try to stick to washing your hair 2 times per week at most.

Use oils as a pre-wash conditioning treatment.

I absolutely love using oils for hair. The key with using hair oils is to apply them from mid-lenght of the hair to the ends. Then wrap your hair up into a bun or a braid and keep it in your hair for a few hours or overnight. My hair always feels softer and shinier after using a good hair oil before i wash my hair. One of my oils to use for the hair is sweet almond oil and rosemary oil. Rosemary oil has been shown to help with hair growth!

Take care of your scalp!

Scalp care tends to be the most overlooked part of our hair routine. As with the skin on our face, we also need to take care of the skin on our scalp. With a healthy scalp, we give our hair the chance to grow long and strong. According to certified AMCA trichologist Chasity Shipman, exfoliating the scalp helps in promoting healthy hair growth by waking up the follicles. "A tight and dry scalp will not encourage hair growth, but rather slow it down or cause shedding due to lack of stimulation and blood circulation," she said. "Scalp exfoliation is great for those who suffer from scalp disorders such as psoriasis, [scalp] eczema and seborrheic dermatitis."I like to use the Drunk Elephant T.L.C Happi Scalp Scrub, at least twice a month. I noticed a great improvement in my scalp and hair growth while using a scalp exfoliator!

Let your hair do its thing.

It can be so tempting to get that new trendy hair style you've been seeing all over Instagram. Do your hair a favor and let it grow. It is so rewarding seeing the progress you've made in your hair health! Progress takes time so give it just that. If you really cannot go without going to the hair salon then i would recommend to do a light balayage to freshen up the hair or a "dusting" hair cut (which is a trim for only split ends).
